New 'do - bob inspiration.

We have major Spring fever over here, and with that comes wanting to chop off or change our hair drastically! I (Erin) chopped almost 8 inches of my locks yesterday (!!) and am over the moon with my new bob that my good friend Amy Zacharias over at Freshair boutique did! Photos to come soon! Do you have a favorite style you are always drawn to when wanting to change it up?
The lovely Annie Monroe has the perfect bob!

This is my dream haircut!

This bob is on the shorter side, but it would be pretty great for Summer.

Lily Allen looking picture perfect! I had this cut a few years ago and am super tempted to go back to it.

How to steal Audrey Hepburn's style

We recently watched the film "How to Steal a Million" from 1966 with the lovely Audrey Hepburn. It's about  a woman who has to steal a statue from a Paris museum in order to help cover up her father's art forgeries, and the man who helps her!
We love Audrey's flawless mod style in the film especially all of the beautiful Givenchy pieces!

Sixties style icon: Francoise Hardy.

Francoise Hardy was born in Paris and was a popular French singer and actress in the 1960's. You may recognize her from the song "Tous les garcons et les filles" from Moonrise Kingdom. (You know that scene when they are dancing on the beach? That's the one!) If you thought that song was catchy then we definitely recommend you checking out the rest of her albums. She has such a beautiful voice that is so easy and fun to dance to! Not only do we love her voice, but we also can't get enough of her effortless casual 1960's style. I mean with the thick bangs, winged eyeliner, and bold stripes, what's not to love?

A perfect example of her excellent hair.

Such a beautiful candid shot.

We can't decide which look we love more!

Gah! How incredible is this dress!

Francoise, not only are you talented but you're a natural beauty.

Sixties style icon: Jean Shrimpton

When we think of 1960's style icons Jean Shrimpton is definitely one of the first names that comes to mind. Her natural beauty and effortless style is always so inspiring. We can't get enough of her cute bangs, big 60's hair, and amazing dresses!

Jean Shrimpton was born in England and broke out into the modeling scene in 1960 at age 17. Soon after that she began appearing on covers of big magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. She quickly became known as "the most popular model," "the most photographed face in the world," and most importantly "the face of the 60's."

Here is a little fun fact for you: Jean helped launch the mini skirt into popularity in 1965 by arriving in Melbourne wearing a dress with hem that was a whopping 10 cm above her knee! (Pretty shocking for the time!) That's just another reason why we are featuring Jean Shrimpton as our style icon on this Sixties Sunday!
Love this strapless high-waisted bathing suit! So cute!

Mia Farrow.

Mia Farrow is the daughter of the director John Farrow and the actress Maureen O'Sullivan. She first started acting in 1959 but it wasn't until 1968 when Rosemary's Baby, that she was noticed. She later met Woody Allen and became his muse. We love her for her incredible pixie cut, amazing sixties style and those cheekbones, oh those cheekbones!
Even in a plain white t-shirt she looks stunning!

Those cheekbones! That coat! That eye make-up!

Her freckles are killin' us!

Style Muse: Anna Karina.

Anna Karina was a popular Danish model/actress living in Paris in the 1960's. You might know her from French films such as A Woman is a Woman (1961), Vivre sa vie (1962), and Alphaville (1965). Not only was she a talented young starlet, but she also had am incredible sense of style and natural beauty. We definitely consider her to be a big style muse of ours, and we plan on taking inspiration from her when cultivating our fall/winter wardrobes! Here are a few reasons why we find her look so inspiring:

1. She knows how to pull off the perfect bob. This is a classic style that we are both huge fans of.

2. She also knows how to rock a pretty awesome beehive up-do. We love having a bit of volume in our hair with a good top knot or back-combed bump, but the height on this hairdo really takes the cake!

3. We are big suckers for anything with a bit of a nautical influence, and this outfit hits the nail on the head!

4. Bold prints & bright colors. Yes yes yes! You don't get much more sixties than that!

5. Love the sultry cat-eye look. Our make-up bags are never complete without a good, black, liquid eyeliner.

Anna Karina, you are one beautiful woman.

Sixties Style Inspiration: Beyonce

I bet you read the title of this post and were a little bit confused, because typically Beyonce doesn't come to mind when you are thinking of mid century style sofas and turquoise rotary phones. Well friends, we are about to change your opinion about that!

Today we are going to share with you some stills taken from Beyonce's music video, Why Don't You Love Me, because it is seriously one of the greatest music videos that we've ever seen! The styling is absolutely impeccable and the attention to detail is unbelievable. The video is a play on a day in the life of a retro housewife, so you watch as she bakes cookies, does laundry, tidies her home, and waters the plants all while looking incredibly retro glam. The whole video is shot on an old style camera so it is very grainy and you feel like you are watching someone's old home movies. Such an interesting approach to filming a modern music video! Here are a few of our favorite scenes from the video to give you a little mid-century modern inspiration on your Sunday! Enjoy!

The exterior of this mid century home is so stunning! It's even complete with little flamingos!
We love how her turquoise nails match her phone perfectly.
A great example of attention to detail: check out all of those vintage kitchen appliances in the background! So cute.
We can't get enough of those amazing sunglasses!
