Yemeni Manuscript Digitization Initiative
"The private manuscript libraries of Yemen, estimated at 50,000 codices, constitutes the largest and most important set of unexamined Arabic manuscripts in the world today. The Yemeni Manuscript Digitization Initiative presents, for the first time, access to manuscripts from three private libraries in Sanaa, Yemen, and virtually conjoins them to additional Yemeni manuscripts held by the Princeton University Library and Staatsbibliothek, Berlin. The texts in this archive were composed, copied, studied, and preserved by Zaydi scholars from the tenth century to the present. Zaydism is a leading school of Islam in Northern Yemen known for forms of rationalist theology that were abandoned in other regions. The Yemeni Manuscript Digitization Initiative is made possible by a Enriching Digital Collections Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaf (DFG). The grant is administered by Princeton University Library and the Free University, Berlin in conjunction with the Imam Zayd ibn Ali Cultural Foundation (IZbACF) in Sanaa, Yemen. Information on this grant and related projects to preserve and disseminate the manuscripts of Yemen can be found at ymdi.uoregon.edu."h/t Prof. Dr. Sabine Schmidtke

Open Access Journal: AKTC Afghanistan Newsletter
AKTC Afghanistan Newsletter
Newsletters Documenting the Progress of Cultural Revitalisation Projects in Kabul and Herat
These newsletters document the progress of the revitalisation projects of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), which began the rehabilitation of Bagh-e-Babur, a walled and terraced garden containing the tomb of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, in 2002. The programme has expanded to include the 19th-century mausoleum in central Kabul over the grave of Timur Shah and a great number of homes, mosques and other structures in the war-damaged quarters of Asheqan wa Arefan, Chindawol and Kuche Kharabat. In Herat, in western Afghanistan, a range of documentation, conservation and upgrading works has also been carried out since 2005 in surviving historic sections of the old city.

THE IDEAL AMERICAN LOOK
The real-life Gary Cooper was just as authentic. He had an ideal American look - unstudied yet refined, natural and playful. There was a charm about him in the way he didn't take himself too seriously. He had that sort of "aw shucks" attitude, plus a look that was all about quality, and a way of dressing that was much his own. This forward was written by Ralph Lauren for a book called "Gary Cooper Enduring Style" This book is filled with stylish pictures of a movie star who lived in the hay days of Hollywood.
In the last picture you see a style which was embraced by the peacocks at the Pitti Uomo.

Todd Snyder creates the ideal wardrobe for a rugged urban adventurer. Slim leather jackets and fur-lined parkas paired with slim cargo pants, wool suits and soft cardigans.

Al Mashriq
Al Mashriq - The Levant: Cultural Riches from the Countries of the Eastern Mediterranean
Al-Mashriq is a non-political, non-secterian, non-commercial webserver. Any opinions expressed are those of the authors and in no way reflect the views of the maintainer of the server. Its purpose is to gather information that reflects the culture and ways of life of Lebanon and the Levant and was started as guide and entry point to the life and history of the region for the benefit of expatriates of the Levant.
Al-Mashriq is a repository for cultural multimedia information from the Levant (Al-Mashriq) in general and Lebanon in particular. As of October 2010 it contains over 245000 documents and is still growing. It was started as an initiative by Berthe Choueiry (now associate professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln) and myself in 1993 and was for a while an ftp-server at the Ecole Polytechnic Federal de Lausanne. It was moved in 1994 to become a World-Wide Web server at the Østfold University College, Halden (Norway) where it now resides and is maintained by myself and an occasional team of students.
Contributions that fall within the scope of the server are received with gratitude. Material must contain correct bibliographic references to source and must not be in violation of copyright. The editors of Al-Mashriq retain the sole right to accept or refuse material.
The Steady Hand: Yes or No- Wearing Shoes in the House
The Steady Hand: Yes or No- Wearing Shoes in the House
'Now my husband on the other hand…will wear his shoes everywhere. From the moment he gets dressed in the morning until he goes to bed, his shoes are on. How is that comfortable? I told him that I do not like him wearing his shoes in the house but that doesn’t go very far. The only fight I have won is that he will not wear his shoes upstairs…ever. No one gets to wear their shoes upstairs…unless you want to clean the carpet on the stairs for me.
Shoes track dirt everywhere! That is why I don’t see any reason why you should wear your shoes in the house (well, at least my house). Yes, I am that much of a clean freak. It didn’t get this bad until after my daughter. Kids are on the floor all the time. Touching it, dropping stuff on it, etc. Especially based on the fact that most of the floors in my house are light-colored so that they show even the smallest amount of dirt. Don’t get me started on carpet stains!'
