We will meet in the Museum parking lot.

101 N. Museum Dr, Palm Springs, CA (map)
"The view from San Jacinto is the most sublime spectacle to be found anywhere on this earth!"  - John Muir
We will take advantage of the last day of Daylight Savings Time to hike C2C. According to Wikipedia, the "Cactus to Clouds trail involves an arduous climb of over 10,000 feet from the Palm Springs Art Museum [at approximately 450 feet] to the summit at 10,834 feet. The mountain is quite rugged in places, with several outdoor hazards that hikers may be unprepared for, including high altitude, severe weather, steep rock faces, and wild animals. Hikers and climbers die or are harmed every year."
C2C is a very beautiful but extremely strenuous and potentially dangerous hike. If you would like to attend, and if you have done a recent hike with at least 5000 feet of elevation gain, please sign up by joining the Waiting list. If we have hiked with you before, or if we know about your hiking experience, we will add you to the Going list. This sign-up process is for your safety and the safety of the group. Thanks for your understanding!

Perry A I did this same hike with a different group on the 29th and 2 people took over 17 hrs to complete the hike. I did my best to talk them into turning back to no avail. You do NOT want to sign up for this hike if you are not really prepared. It is a lot harder than Mt. Whitney - based on what more than once recent Whitney hiker told me in person. ;)

Ordinary Days: 31 Days of a Happy Home: Sticking To Your Guns

Ordinary Days: 31 Days of a Happy Home: Sticking To Your Guns

'But when it comes to my home, there are some things that I just have to be firm about.

For instance, we are a Shoes Off At The Door household. I'm not asking to make anyone uncomfortable. It's a cleanliness thing for us. We have tons of little kids and we all pretty much live on our floor. I don't want pesticides, public bathroom gunk, dog poo and everything else that gets trampled through every day tracked into our house.

I've hung this sign at each entrance that kindly asks people to remove their shoes. And, even though it's not the most comfortable thing in the world for me to do, I ask them to please take off their shoes if they ignore the sign. Ugh, I hate that feeling. I wish they'd just take their shoes off so I wouldn't have to ask.'

CHAD GOES TO MIAMI

Chad is going to Miami, no not just Miami to be honest. I'm making a road trip, The journey starts tomorrow in Orlando, Fl. and it will ends in Miami,Fl. I will stay in South Beach (Art Deco district) at the Albion Hotel. This hotel was designed by Igor Polevitsky and built in 1939. The hotel is an example of the streamline modern architecture, which was popular in 1930s, with portholes, curved front and "smokestack" like fins.

Weblog of Zoe Winters: Please Remove Your Shoes

Weblog of Zoe Winters: Please Remove Your Shoes

"I had a party recently and had people over. There is a no-shoe policy in my house. We have laminate floors and while they “Tell you” they don’t damage as easily as hardwood floors, if it’s true then hardwood floors must be super fragile. Also, I don’t know how it is with hardwood, but I’ve noticed with my laminate it tracks in ALL dirt. You can think your shoes are totally clean and walk across the floor and leave prints. Weirdly, I walk around outside without shoes quite often, and when I come in, I rarely track in dirt. For some reason, while it’s not universally true, bare feet tend to track less of anything around. You may pick up some dirt, but it’s unlikely the dirt will transfer back onto every surface (unless you were walking in mud). But shoes? Forget about it.

So part of my no-shoe policy is about not having to spend all my time mopping up after what others have tracked in. Because I HATE mopping. Another small part is about not damaging floors with scuff marks from black-soled shoes, or scratches and such from heels. That’s part of it, and a big part of it."

WHAT DID I SEE TODAY?

Today, I spent some hours in Amsterdam and spotted this fine stuff,  Yuketen Main Guide Boots and Penfield Stapleton Tweed Jacket at the 1-store. A great color story of brushed plaid shirts at the Ralph Lauren Store and the cargo pants from PT Icon at Oger.

AMERICA'S PLACE TO EAT

"I want you smoothered want you covered
Like my waffle house hash browns
Come quick like fed ex"

Just a part of the lyrics of a song called Ain't Nothing But Mammals by The Bloodhound Gang. It's all about a a restaurant chain founded in 1955 with over 1600 locations in 25 States in North America. Founded byJoe Rogers and Tom Forkner. Rogers had started as a short-order cook in 1947 at the Toddle House in New Haven, Ct. Rogers' concept was to marry the speed of fast food with table service and around the clock availability. Forkner suggested naming it Waffle House, as waffles were the most profitable item on the 16-item menu. Honestly I don't care that much about the history, but I will make detour if I know there is a Waffle House on my road trips.

J.CREW THE HIGHLIGHT REEL

American East Coast preppy style as per J.Crew. I like the orange chino combined with a tweed blazer.
